EcoScope

The second edition of EcoScope, a program organized by the Festival Network of the Adriatic Region, which combines film screenings and discussions on the topic of ecology and environmental protection, will be held from April 1 to 7, on the online platform ondemand.kinomeetingpoint.ba.

As part of EcoScope, regional audience will have the opportunity to watch two recent documentaries free of charge that take viewers on a fascinating, but warning tour around our planet: "Matter out of Space" by Nikolaus Geyrhalter and "Earth Beneath the Dark Lid" by Amir Muratović, and listen to experts talk about climate changes.

"Matter Out of Place" by Nikolaus Geyrhalter (Our Daily Bread, 7915 km, Homo Sapiens) was crowned with the Pardo verde WWF award at the Locarno International Film Festival. The author follows the trail of waste all over the planet - from the mountain peaks of Switzerland to Nepal, the Maldives and the deserts of Nevada, in order to record people's efforts to master the vast amounts of waste. Are collecting, cutting, burning and burying waste Sisyphean efforts that solve this pressing problem only in appearance?

"Earth Beneath a Dark Lid" directed by Amir Muratović follows pilot, photographer, alpinist and environmentalist Matevžo Lenarčić on his journey around the world in an ultralight aircraft. Lenarčić's travels take on a deeper meaning after he meets scientist Griša Močnik, who is researching the impact of black carbon, the second biggest cause of climate change that affects global warming. As part of the Green Light World Flight project, Matevž and his team are traveling from Sarajevo and Milan across Africa, Patagonia, Antarctica all the way to India and Bhutan, creating an extraordinary collection of data to help us understand where black carbon particles stay.

EcoScope 2023: A majestic symphony about the primordial forces of the planet Earth

The EcoScope Selection in the Network of Festivals in the Adriatic Region presented film audiences with the film Songs of Earth.

Songs of Earth is a majestic symphony for the big screen, directed by the Norwegian director Margareth Olin. The film is an audio-visual composition of the earth's primordial forces, with the camera taking us from inside nature's smallest components to the wild panoramas. The filmmaker's 85-year-old father guides us through the film. He takes us through the most scenic valley in which he grew up, where generations have been living alongside nature to survive. The sounds of the earth harmonize together to make music in this breathtaking journey.

The film premiered at CPH Docs and, as part of the Network program, will be screened at all five Network member festivals.

The EcoScope Selection brings together film screenings and the conversation on ecology and the environment.

EcoScope 2022

During December 2022, three screenings of the film „Hidden Life of Trees“ were held in cinemas in Sarajevo, Zagreb and Ljubljana, as an introduction of EcoScope program. Screenings were followed by panel discussions with prominent experts in this field, representatives of local governments and NGO's.

 „Hidden Life of Trees“

Did you know that trees communicate with each other and take care of their offspring, that they use complex mechanisms to warn other individuals of enemies and that they live in complex communities? Based on the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal bestseller of the same name by the German forester, nature lover and popularizer of ecology Peter Wohlleben, the film "The Secret Life of Trees" directed by Jörg Adolph reveals to viewers the secrets hidden in the depths of European and world forests.
